The Tata Medical Center (TMC) is recruiting for the positions of Research Assistant and Senior Research Assistant at the Tata Translational Cancer Research Centre (TTCRC) in Kolkata. TMC is a multispecialty institution for tertiary cancer care, and TTCRC is its dedicated research arm located within the same academic campus in New Town, Kolkata. The research focuses on developing innovative strategies to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Job Overview

The selected candidates will join the Organoid Laboratory (SOLi3D group) at TTCRC. The primary responsibility is to continue, optimize, and extend ongoing work on developing, establishing, maintaining, and characterizing tumour organoid cultures from patient tissue samples. The role involves working closely with the SOLi3D team, multidisciplinary clinical teams, biorepository unit, and other groups at TTCRC.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following educational and experience requirements:

  • Educational qualification: MSc/MTech in any stream of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology.
  • Relevant experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Familiarity with DNA, RNA and protein extraction techniques, quality check, qRT-PCR and Western Blot.
  • Familiarity with good laboratory practices.

Preferable Experience:

  • Experience with patient samples handling.
  • Experience with 3D (spheroid/organoid/organ-on-chip) cell culture models.
  • Experience in high throughput drug screening assays.
  • Experience in automated high throughput confocal imaging.
  • Experience in hydrogel bioprinting.
  • Experience in automated liquid handler/digital dispenser use.
  • Knowledge of LIMS (e.g., LabVantage) use for biobanking clinical samples.
  • Knowledge of advanced MS Excel, R programming, Image analysis software.

Selection Process

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The recruiting panel will select successful candidates based on their performance in the interview.

Salary and Tenure

  • Retainership: Research Assistant level I/II will receive a consolidated amount of INR 25,000- 28,000 per month. The actual retainership amount will be according to the payment scale guideline at TTCRC and commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and interview performance.
  • Benefits: No HRA will be provided. Health insurance will be covered as per institute policy.
  • Tenure: The initial appointment will be for 1 year. Further renewal of the contract is subject to satisfactory performance assessed through periodic appraisals. These are sanctioned regular positions funded by an intramural core grant.
